The 590 Km of Arabian coast is most under utilized of all our resources – We have seventeen ports in Kerala, comprising one major port, three intermediate ports and thirteen minor ports, spread over coastal basin. Kochi is the only major port in the State .
The three Intermediate Ports in the State are Beypore, Alappuzha and Neendakara. The minor Ports are Kovalam-Vizhinjam, Valiyathura, Thankasseri, Kayamkulam, Munambam/ Kodungalloor, Ponnani, Vadakara, Thalasseri, Kannur, Azhikal, Neeleswaram, Kasaragod and Manjeswaram.
Each one of these ports have the potential to be developed into such great extent that it will virtually take care of the most deprived class ,viz, the fishermen and other coastal area dwellers to achieve economic development
The ports and fishing harbours of the state forms the most precious necklace of “Kerala Matha” .The proper expansion and utilization of these assets will give jobs to millions of people and boost the trade and economy to make us the most developed state in India . A new revolution should be started realizing the importance of our sea and coastline – A “Blue Revolution”.
The Ports will bring in the trade and commerce .The harbours will harness the marine wealth .This will necessitate investment of crores of rupees – A Maritime Infrastructure Development Corporation should be developed which can mobilize resources for the same .
