VISION 2010

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Kerala should utilize its geostrategic location and natural resources to develop itself into a modern state . Development of a string of “Ports and Harbours “ along with a “Coastal Highway” and transition into a “Knowledge based economy” forms the crux of my suggestions .
Kerala should utilize the all important factor of connectivity to usher itself into the World economy . We should transform our state into the “Gateway of South Asia” – for this the “Vizhinjam Transshipment Hub Port “ must be given prime importance . Using Vizhinjam Kerala will become the biggest Trading centre in South Asia.We should have a World Trade centre to facilitate World trade .

The Coastal Highway will turn into a “IT corridor and commercial corridor” spanning the entire state. This will link all the “Parks” and the “Ports and Harbours” and will also carry a new internet /telecommunication backbone which will provide us with the most advanced connectivity . We will also have a chain of airports with completion of Kannur airport which will give the fastest access to any part of the state.

The States urban development should be concentrated along the coastal ,low land and midland areas .The highland and forest areas should be preserved and developed to protect our rivers which form the real source of life of our country . The Highland/forest areas will be preserved for the natural beauty ,forest wealth and plantation which earns our foreign exchange. This will also ensure our “Water security”.

The States economy can developed on these three pillars – Trade , Tourism and Knowledge products. The most promising fields of advancement in Science and Technology are Information technology ,Bio technology and Nano technology . ”Parks” or “Techcities” to further growth in these sectors should be build.

The development of Human resources will take place in tandem with the transition in economy and Keralites will transform themselves to become World Citizen ,ready to take up on the challenges of the new Millennium.
