TOURISM

Natural beauty being the most important treasure , the significance of tourism industry is well evident . Tourism is coming on its own and is developing at a rapid pace . Tourism is one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries. In 2000, there were 699 million international tourist arrivals throughout the world, and international tourist receipts reached US $ 476 billion. There has been strong growth in foreign travel to developing countries during recent years and this trend is expected to continue.Economic diversification and technological improvement have created a conducive environment for tourism development in the present age of globalization. India and South East Asia have been gearing up to achieve significant progress in this field owing to a number of encouraging factors. India has vast geographical spread and great historical and cultural heritage, which are excellent condition for growth in this sector .However Government should put the necessary controls so that it does create social problems in the localities .
In Kerala , tourism has already diversified into beach ,back water and highland tourism .Tourists has been categorized into several like holiday/honeymoon tourists, health and medical tourists , corporate tourists, pilgrim tourists , nature lovers etc . We have enough potential in promoting each of these groups.
Ayurveda ,Yoga and Kerala’s own arts and other cultural treasures can be imaginatively utilized through creation of Tourist villages . This will provide opportunities for the local youth ,artisans and artists .Here the traditional is offered in the most modern ways .So utilization of advanced technologies along with the traditional tools and wisdom will create an enchanting world.

We should make people more and more aware about preserving the natural beauty of our state. We should retain the charm of forests , semi forest areas, wet lands, grass lands , and hill stations . When people realize that the value of these places lie in retaining them as such or enhancing the beauty in natural ways they will be willing to do so suo moto. The increase in number of people being involved in tourism business also will bring in awareness to larger section of the population . Government should make constant efforts to cultivate such a general culture of environmental preservation . This is best done by beginning in schools and colleges.
Homeland Tourism and living spaces : This should become an essential feature of life in this country . While we invite the whole world to come and enjoy our nature ,the state should take up the initiative to provide opportunity for the common people also enjoy the same . This will also inculcate a feeling of pride and importance of preserving our heritage among the population . “Economy resorts” should be built in all major tourist spots by the KTDC or in collaboration with interested private bidders .
We should also develop open and green spaces and places for leisure in all the cities . Cities need to keep and nurture talented people as well as provide opportunities for all citizen to enjoy the gifts of nature . These open and green spaces will also provide city dwellers day to day interaction with nature which otherwise they will be missing in the concrete jungle.
The entire hill ranges and mountains along with the forests should be conserved with real zeal .The people in these areas should be motivated to do it themselves .They must be shown the path of making a good living by conserving Earth and not by destroying it .For this tourism must be developed at 10 times more than the present status
